Twenty-five
swimmers from the Sarnia Y Rapids 1 Swim Team participated in the
first swim meet of the St. Clair Erie Aquatic League (SEAL) season
in Aylmer on October 19. Two team members finished first in at least
one event in their age groups. Lauren Armstrong, 8, finished 1st
in the 25m breaststroke, and added 3rd place in the 50m
backstroke and 4th in the 25m butterfly; fellow
8-year-old Trevor Marut earned his 1st-place finishes in
the 50m backstroke and freestyle events, and also came 2nd
in the 25m breaststroke and 3rd in the 25m butterfly.
Four of their
teammates finished in the Top Three: Diane Clarke, 13, finished 2nd
in the 100m freestyle and 3rd in the 100m breaststroke
while improving her personal best times (PBTs) in each of her
events; Greg Dietrich, also 13, improved all of his PBTs as well and
took three 2nd-place finishes in the 100m backstroke,
breaststroke and freestyle; fellow 13-year-old Kaiden Rawson came 3rd
in the 100m backstroke and breaststroke while improving PBTs in all
of his events; 11-year-old Devan Dyck took more than 8 seconds off
his PBT in the 50m butterfly while finishing 3rd in that
event.
Another eight
swimmers earned ribbons with up to 6th-place finishes.
Kristen Alexander, 9, came 5th in the 50m backstroke.
Eight-year-old Kate Bedard placed 5th in the 25m
breaststroke and 50m freestyle and 6th in the 50m
backstroke. Daniel Guo, 11, finished 5th in the 50m
backstroke and 6th in the 50m butterfly. Daisy Jenkins,
9, earned a 5th-place finish in the 50m freestyle and 6th
in the 25m breaststroke where she improved her PBT by 14 seconds.
Warren Millward, 12, finished 4th in each of his events.
Eleven-year-old Tyler Murphy swam to a 5th-place finish
in the 50m breaststroke and 6th in the 50m backstroke,
while Jagger Norton, 9, placed 6th in the 50m butterfly.
Russell Oliver, also 9, finished 4th in the 25m
breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and 5th in the 25m
butterfly and 50m backstroke.
Reaching the Top 10
in at least one event were Carter Brush, 10, Eileen Carter, 8,
Arianah Dreise, 11 (who also bested all her PBTs), Jessie Hillier,
9, Annabelle Rayson, 10, Grace Vandevenne, 11 (who took 20 seconds
off her PBT in the 100m freestyle), and Isabella Wright, 9. Ava
Norton, 9, improved each of her PBTs, by as much as 10 seconds,

Olivia Conroy, 12, Vanessa Dyck, 10, and Susan Wu, 11.
The Sarnia Y Rapids
