The Sarnia Sting suffered a 3 - 2
overtime loss to the Flint Firebirds Friday night at the SSEC.
In the first period Will Bitten scored
for Flint just :51 seconds into the game on a penalty shot.
Nikita Korostelev evened the score at 13:42. After a scoreless
second period Troy Lajeunesse gave the Sting the lead for the first
time at 1:26 into the third period.
Flint's tying goal came on the power play after a long delay when a
high stick was reviewed. The call was given to Flint and the goal by
Francesco Vilardi stayed.
Flint's Ryan Moore’s scored the game
winner at 1:11 of the extra frame.
Sarnia out shot Flint by a wide margin
of 42-23. Outstanding in net for the Firebirds was Alex
Nedeljkovic with 40 saves. Sting netminder Justin Fazio took the
loss made 20 saves.
Sarnia was scoreless on the power play
going zero for four. Flint scored once on five opportunities.
Sarnia is ranked second in the West
Division with a record of 9-5-2. The Sting are back in action
Sunday November 8 when they host the Saginaw Spirit at the SSEC at
7:05 pm.
