The first place Leamington Flyers dominated the Sarnia Legionnaires Thursday on their way to a 6-2 victory.

Coach Mark Davis's Jr. 'B' hockey club was in the game during the opening 20 minutes of play and actually scored the first goal, which came off the stick of Ethan Dupont.

Dupont, who now has two goals on the campaign, was set up by Ryan Vendramin and Alec Dekoning.

But Leamington struck twice just before the end of the period and went into the dressing room ahead 2-1.

"I thought we played a pretty good first period, but their goalie made some big saves, Davis said.

In fact, Sarnia outshot the visitors 14-10 during the opening stanza.

But Leamington got the only tally of the second frame a shorthanded breakaway goal that made it 3-1 after 40 minutes.

With the Flyers ahead 6-1 late in the third, Brad Yowart scored his fourth of the season for Sarnia. He was set up by Vendramin and Jordan Fogarty.

With the victory the Flyers improved to an impressive 15-3-1-0, good enough for first place, five points ahead of the second ranked London Nationals.

Sarnia, which sits in sixth, two points back of both St. Thomas and LaSalle, is now 9-8-1-1.

Despite the outcome, Davis was in an upbeat mood, saying several of his charges played a strong game against a powerhouse team.

Shayne Battler, who faced 37 shots, took the loss in net.

The Legionnaires threw 27 pucks at Wall.

Sarnia returns to action Thursday when it hosts LaSalle.

Game time at Sarnia Arena is set for 7:10 p.m.
