Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club to Host Ontario Novice Pairs Championships

September 8, 2015

Ontario’s Competitive Lawn Bowlers Set to Compete at Ontario Novice Pairs Lawn Bowling Championships in Sarnia.

Bowlers from across Ontario will be competing for the opportunity of being crowned the Ontario Novice Pairs Lawn Bowling Champions at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club this coming weekend.

16 Men’s and 16 Women’s teams from across Ontario (64 bowlers) will meet in Sarnia for two days of competition in a sport which requires the perfect combination of accuracy and strategy. Novice bowlers are those who have bowled for less than five years.

The event will be held at the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club in Germain Park (off Bright Street) the weekend of Sept. 11-13. A practice day and opening reception sponsored by Fairwinds Lodge will take place on Sept. 11 with games taking place throughout the day on Sept. 12 and 13. Spectators are welcome at no charge.

Sarnia will have two teams representing District 2 at the provincials. Grant Collison and Jay Hill will compete in the men’s event, while Mary Winter and Gwen Klatt seek the ladies’ title.

“The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club has been hosting bowlers from across Canada for over 100 years and we are honoured to be hosting the Ontario Novice Pairs Lawn Bowling Championships this year. The greens are in prime condition and our host committee is extremely excited and ready to welcome the bowlers,” said Dave Moffitt, president of the Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club.
