Lambton Jr. Sting Major Atom Compete in Elite Detroit Tournament

The Lambton Jr. Sting AAA Major Atom team participated in the highly competitive Compuware HoneyBaked “AAA” Invite over the weekend in Detroit and advanced to the Gold Quarter Finals. The boys had one win, one tie and one loss in round robin play before dropping an 8-3 loss at the hands of Detroit Compuware in the Quarter Final.

Game 1 had the team up against the very strong Pittsburg Penguins Elite AAA team.  The Sting gave the Penguins a game, trailing 1-0 after the first and 2-0 after two, but fell 4-0.  Carter La Rocque played well in net and kept the Sting in the game.

The Sting rallied back in game 2 with a strong and decisive 7 – 0 win over Meijer AAA.  Caiden Smit earned the Shut-out.  Scoring for the Atoms were Tanner Winegard and Seth Ainsworth with two each, Adam Osler, Garret Pearce and Aaron Shanks with one apiece.   Pearce, Ryan Vidler and Ryan Pageau each picked up two assists.  Single Assists went to Logan O’Leary-Dilosa, Jace Mc Grail, Landon Buckingham, Shanks, Adam Maitland, Jaxon Priddle and Evan Morningstar.

Game 3 was an existing 3-3 draw versus the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies.  Aaron Shanks led the attack with a pair of goals.  Jaxon Priddle chipped in with a single.   Adam Maitland picked up two assists while single assists went to Pearce, Pageau, Shanks and Priddle.  La Rocque was strong in net for the Sting.

The quarter final match up had the Sting up against the mighty Detroit Compuware.  A weak second period was the difference as the Sting gave up 5 goals in the period in an 8-3 loss.  Although a lopsided loss the team never gave up and won the 3rd period, 2 goals to 1.  Scoring for the Sting were Priddle, Buckingham and Pageau.  Assists went to Osler, Jace Mc Grail, Morningstar, Luke Doan, Pearce and Maitland.

The Sting are off until Wednesday as the get back to league play versus the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs in Komoka.
