The Sarnia Legionnaires fought
the good fight against the first
place Leamington Flyers Saturday
before falling 4-2.
The fourth Flyers goal was into
an open net.
Perhaps more galling, as far as
Sarnia head coach Mark Davis was
concerned, was the fact that the
winning tally came on a play he
felt was illegal.
"On the winning goal they ran
our goalie,” he said. “Three
times tonight they ran our
goalie.”
He added the younger, smaller
Legionnaires played a great game
against the Western Jr. 'B'
loop's top team.
“We can't find a break,” he
said. “We hit a post, we hit a
toe, we hit a skate, we couldn't
get the puck through.”
Overall, Sarnia outshot the
visitors 24-23.
The Flyers took a 2-0 lead
before the Legion crew got two
goals in 37 seconds late in the
first period to tie the contest.
Konnor Roskovich got the first,
after being set up by Jordan
Fogarty. For Roskovich, a
defensive-defenceman, it was
only his second goal of the
season.
Another rearguard, Sam
McCormack, figured in the tying
marker, letting go a drive that
forward Brandon Layman deflected
into the cage. For Layman, it
was his 22nd of the campaign.
Shayne Battler took the loss in
net, while Tyler Wall got the
win.
