Despite carrying the play
for the better part of 60
minutes, the Sarnia Sting
dropped a 5-2 decision to
the Saginaw Spirit on
Wednesday night at the Dow
Event Center.
Former Spirit, Devon Paliani
opened the scoring for the
Sting just 3:36 into the
opening frame. Paliani took
a pass from Sam Studnicka,
walked off the half-wall and
beat Cormier over the glove.
With just over 5 minutes
remaining in the period,
Kirill Maksimov's scored the
first of four unanswered
goals before the
intermission. Matthew Kreis,
Kris Bennett and Tye
Felhaber each added a first
period tally.
Not for a lack of chances,
the Sting were only able to
get one back in the second
period - this time off the
stick of Sting Captain, Sam
Studnicka. Travis Konecny
and Jakob Chychrun were
credited with the assists on
the powerplay marker. The
Sting outshot Saginaw 14-9
in the second period.
The third stanza was much of
the same. The Sting fired 10
shots in Evan Cormier's
direction compared to the 2
that Graham faced in the
period. Will Petschenig
added an empty net goal for
the Spirit with 1:02
remaining in the game.
The Sting are back in action
on Friday night at the SSEC
when they play host to the
visiting Flint Firebirds at
7:05 PM. Fans in attendance
will go home with a
collectable 2016 Team
Poster. The club is also
home to the Soo Greyhounds
on Saturday afternoon at
2:05. Tickets for kids (12 &
under) are just $6.00 on
Sundays.
