Mooretown Flags Overwhelmed in Essex

"They showed why they're defending Ontario Champs tonight." said Mooretown Flags head coach Doug Slipacoff after losing 8 - 1 to the Essex 73's in game three in Great Lakes Jr C hockey playoffs.

 

"They just poured it on us.  They caught a lot of breaks with puck luck and they just overwhelmed us."


Essex scored 4 goals in the first added a single in the second then 3 more in the third. 

 

"We couldn't catch a break and made too many thoughtless plays which lead to goals against."

 

The Flags lone goal was scored in the second period by Jacob Reeves, his 4th of the playoffs from Landon Wilson.

 

Tyler Scott led the 73's scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assist for a total of 5 points.  Brett Vorshuk, Anthony Cristofaro, Phil Janikowski Griffin McCarty and Dalton Langlois each scored 1.

 

Essex outshot the Flags 48 - 15. 

 

Brandon Johnson turned away 40 shots in the loss Trevor Wheaton made 14 saves in the win.


On the power play Mooretown was scoreless on five opportunities and Essex scored once on six.

 

Essex leads the best of seven series 3 - 0. 

The Flags are in a must win situation will host the 73's Monday (Feb 29) night for game 4 of the semi-final series.  Game time 8:00 pm.
