The Sarnia Legionnaires were
defeated 5-3 Thursday by the
London Nationals.
"We didn't do the little things,
we didn't finish our checks,”
Sarnia head coach Mark Davis
lamented afterward.
There were also a number of
defensive breakdowns, with Nats
snipers being left alone in the
slot time and again.
Davis added the Legionnaires
played well for only 28 minutes.
“We played good in the first
period and for eight minutes in
the third.”
Jordan Fogarty put Sarnia ahead
1-0 in the first frame with a
power-play goal. Standing in the
slot, he rifled home his 11th of
the campaign, beating goalie
Zack Weir high on the glove
side. Ryan Vendramin and Brock
Perry set the play up.
But it was all London in the
middle period, with John Adams,
Austin Kemp, Matt Doty, John
Warren and Tanner Ferreira
finding the back of the net.
Trailing 5-1 after two periods,
the Legionnaires got a simple
message from their coach.
"I asked them to win the third
period and they went out and
did,” Davis said.
Ethan Dupont scored just past
the mid-point of the stanza to
cut the lead to 5-2. Jarret
Marks and Jacob Stos got helpers
on what was Dupont's third of
the year.
In the final minute of play,
Vendramin redirected the puck
into the cage for his 18th of
the season. Brad Yowart and
Brandon Layman assisted.
