Legionnaires Get Another Overtime Win
FRIDAY JANUARY 22, 2016

The Sarnia Legionnaires seem to
thrive in overtime situations.
The Jr. 'B' hockey club
demonstrated that fact again
Friday, edging the St. Thomas
Stars 4-3 in OT.
So far this season, the Legion
crew has played 11 overtime
contests, winning six, losing
three and tying the other two.
Ryan Vendramin was the hero
Friday, scoring from the side of
the net after being set up by
Jordan Fogarty and Brandon
Layman.
For Vendramin, it was his 19th
goal of the year – including
five game winners. For Fogarty,
it was his 99th career point.
Other Sarnia goals were scored
by Fogarty (with his 14th),
Brock Perry (with his 13) and
Alec DeKoning (with his
seventh).
DeKoning's tally, which tied the
game in the third period, came
after he roared over the
blueline at top speed before
stepping into a blazing drive
from the top of the faceoff
circle.
With the triumph Sarnia improved
its record to 18-16-3-2.
As it stands now, Sarnia is just
four points behind both St.
Thomas and LaSalle, who share
fourth place in the nine-team
Western Jr. 'B' hockey loop. The
top four clubs will get home ice
advantage when playoffs begin in
March.
Game notes:
Goalie Shayne Battler made 35
saves to record his 11th victory
of the year. Stars netminder
Nikolas Dampier suffered the
loss, despite blocking 32 Sarnia
shots.
The Legionnaires were missing
Brett Storr and Captain Hunter
Tyczynski, who are both injured.
The Legionnaires return to
action next Thursday when they
host St. Marys at the Brock
Street barn. Game time is set
for 7:10 p.m.
