Mooretown Flags Take Solid Win in Alvinston

The Mooretown Flags regained 4th spot in the standings race after defeating the Alvinston Flyers Friday night with a solid score of 5 - 1.

 

After the first period both sides were even with Flags Matt Brandon scoring the first goal of the game and Kole Keating scoring the only goal for Alvinston.


The Flags went on and scored two goals each in the second and third period. Brandon added a second goal and Ryan Lyle, Nolan Riley (power play) and Alec Segers adding to the tally.  Joe DeSena earned 3 points in the game with 3 assists, Christian Lyle assisted on 2 goals and singles assists by Ryan Lyle, Alec Segers, Brent Blais and Colin Osler.

 

Brandon Johnson earned the win in net making 38 saves.  Matt Boere took the loss making 24 saves.

 

The Flags scored once on two power play opportunities, Alvinston was scoreless on three chances.

 

Heading into the weekend there were 3 teams who vying for 4th place.  Wheatley who needed two wins  lost to Essex Friday night leaving Lakeshore and Mooretown in the run.  Lakeshore who held 4th prior to Friday night lost to Amherstburg 6 - 3 and is now trailing Mooretown by a single point.  Both teams have one game remaining in the Great Lakes Jr C regular season and both teams will go up against third place Blenheim Blades.

 

Mooretown plays first against Blenheim tonight (Saturday January 30) at home at the Moore Sports Complex with a puck drop at 7:30. 

 

A win will guarantee the Flags 4th.  A loss will put them in the wings to see the outcome of the game Sunday between Lakeshore and Blenheim.
