The Sarnia Sting
dropped Game 1 of the best of
seven series by a score of 6-3
on Friday night at the SSEC. The
Hounds jumped out to a 1-0
series lead in front of 4,199
fans at the Sarnia Sports &
Entertainment Centre.
Brandon Halverson was stellar in
goal for the Greyhounds –
turning aside 33 of 36 shots
faced. Graham was in goal for
the Sting, stopping 25 of 31.
Travis Konecny opened the
scoring for the home team, just
4:29 into the first stanza. The
power play goal was assisted by
Pavel Zacha and Nikita
Korostelev.
Kevin Spinozzi made it 2-0 on
the second half of the
double-minor, finishing off a
pretty Jordan Kyrou pass. Josh
Jacobs drew the second helper.
Hayden Verbeek would get the
lone Greyhounds goal of the
period at 11:19. The goal was
unassisted.
The Greyhounds
would take control in the second
stanza, scoring four times in
the period. Guertler would score
twice while MacIntyre and Speers
would each add singles. Mistele
would score the lone Sting goal
with the assists going to Zacha
& Konecny.
Boris Katchouk would round out
the scoring for Sault Ste. Marie
in the third period.
Game two is set for Sunday at
4:05 as the Sting look to tie up
the series. Tickets can be
