It was an afternoon to forget at
the Sarnia Sports and
Entertainment Centre as the
Sarnia Sting dropped a 5-2
decision to the Sault Ste. Marie
Greyhounds in front of 2,947 of
the Sting faithful.
With the loss, the Sting are now
down 2-0 in the series, heading
north for Game 3 on Tuesday
night at the Essar Centre.
It was another strong outing for
Hounds’ goaltender Brandon
Halverson as he stole the
spotlight, turning aside 39/41
shots in the win. Graham started
in goal for the Sting before
being relieved at the start of
period 3. Justin Fazio finished
the game for the home side.
Zachary Senyshyn, who was named
the game’s first star, scored
the lone goal of period one at
18:22. The lone goal of the
stanza was assisted by Hayden
Verbeek and Gustav Bouramman.
It was another strong 2nd period
showing for the Greyhounds as
they tallied 3 in the middle
frame to give them a 4-0 lead
through 40:00. Katchouk,
Gettinger and MacIntyre had a
single each.
Anthony Salinitri opened the
scoring for the Sting at 6:31 of
the third as he jammed home the
Jordan Kyrou pass.
The game seemed to be within
reach as Matt Mistele scored on
the power play with 9:00 to go.
Pavel Zacha and Travis Konecny
drew the helpers.
After a plethora of pressure in
the Hounds end, Senyshyn took
advantage of a fortuitous bounce
and beat Fazio to regain the
3-goal lead.
Despite firing 24 shots in
Halverson’s direction in the
third period, the Sting were
unable to complete the comeback
on home ice – dropping the game
by a score of 5-2.
Game 3 is set for Tuesday night
in Sault Ste. Marie as the Sting
look to rebound on the road.
Game 4 is slated for Thursday
night – and if necessary, the
Sting will return home for Game
5 on Saturday, April 2nd.
Sting notes:
-
The Stings
power play was 1/3 while the
penalty kill was a perfect
5/5.
-
Anthony
Salinitri was named the
game’s first star
-
Should the
Sting win on Tuesday night,
tickets for Game 5 will be
on sale starting Wednesday
at 9AM.
