Alvinston Indians Win Home Opener

Friday May 13, 2016

The Alvinston Indians returned home on Thursday night for their home opener against the Charing Cross Jr's. The Indians were coming off a 3-2 come-from-behind victory on Monday night in Appin.

On this night, it was all Alvinston, as the Indians piled on 13 runs en route to a 13-1 victory. Bryan Johnson singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning, Joe Triest followed with a walk, and Jamie Shields deposited the first pitch he saw, over the right field fence for a 3 run home run and a 3-0 lead early in the contest. In the second inning with two out, Johnson hammered a solo home run, for a 4-1 lead, as Charing Cross counted in a run in the top of the second inning. Davis Triest started a new rally, when he singled and that set the stage for Jamie Shields who hit his second home run of the game, giving Alvinston a 6-0 lead. Ryan Chapman was the next hitter, and he made it back to back home runs, when he hit a solo shot over the right centre field fence, for a 7-1 lead.

Cole Pavey started on the mound for the Indians, but was relieved after three innings of work by Jeff Wise. Wise lead off the bottom of the third inning with a walk, and Mitch Rops earned his first hit in an Indians uniform when he singled up the middle, putting runners on first and third. Johnson made it a perfect 3/3 in the game, when he doubled scoring Wise. The next hitter was Davis Triest, and he doubled down the line to score both Rops and Johnson. Robbie Black then walked, to put runners on first and second, and Brett Case followed, clubbing a double in the gap to collect his first hit as an Indian, and drive in two runs in the process, for a 12-1 lead.

Jeff Wise clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for Alvinston, and the final score ended up 13-1. The Indians are now 2-0 to start the 2016 season, and hope to get an exhibition game next Thursday night at home, as they have no games scheduled.
