Sarnia Lawn Bowling Celebrates 110 Years
Friday May 6, 2016
One of the oldest sports clubs in Sarnia will celebrate 110
years of fun and competition in the great outdoors this summer.
The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club was founded in 1906, and will
celebrate the anniversary with a special tournament on the Civic
Holiday weekend.
The club is always looking to introduce new bowlers to this
great tradition, and a sport that is challenging yet not too
strenuous, where people of both sexes and all ages can compete
on an equal basis.
All you need is some flat soled shoes and the desire to come out
and have some fun! Bowls are supplied for beginners, along with
some friendly instruction.
The new lawn bowling season begins in mid-May, and newcomers
will be given the opportunity to try the game for free at a
series of Open Houses planned by the club.
The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club is located in Germain Park off
Bright Street (adjacent to the ball and soccer fields). Open
Houses are scheduled for May 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., May
19 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and May 22 from 2-4 p.m. Club
members will be there to welcome you, introduce you to the game,
and answer your questions.
Opening day for club bowling is May 21 at 1 p.m., with the first
tournament, the Mott Memorial, taking place on the holiday
Monday, May 23. Bowling season runs from May to September. The
regular weekly schedule includes mixed social games on Tuesday
and Thursday evenings, plus ladies or men’s bowling on Mondays.
Members may choose to bowl socially or try their hand at more
competitive games in various tournaments.
