Sting fall to first place Whalers

Plymouth, MI -   The Sarnia Sting are 0-2 to start the weekend after a 4-1 loss to the Plymouth Whalers Saturday night in Plymouth.

This games follows a 7-3 loss Friday night to the Erie Otters, and puts Sarnia six points back of the Whalers in the West Division.

Stefan Noesen opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season to give the Whalers a 1-0 lead after the first period of player.

Sarnia would find the tying goal in the second on the power play as Taylor Carnevale earned his sixth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. By the Whalers would still get out of the period with the lead as Garrett Meurs scored his 14th of the season.

In the third, Mueurs would get his second of the game, this time short handed as Plymouth took a 3-1 lead. Five minutes later J. T. Miller would score the 4th Whalers goal, and hand Sarnia the loss.

Brandon Maxwell made 43 saves in loss for Sarnia.

The Sting have been playing with a short bench as of late, as Nail Yakupov, Brett Ritchie, Ryan Kujawinski and Alex Basso are all injured, and Nick Latta and Ludvig Rensfeldt are off to World Junior Hockey camps.

Sarnia will take on Peterborough on Sunday afternoon at the RBC Centre.
