Sarnia, ON - Nail Yakupov returned from a back
injury and scored a goal and added two assists in a
4-2 victory over the Peterborough Petes.
It was the
Sting's first victory of the weekend after a loss to
Erie on Friday and Plymouth on Saturday.
After a
scoreless first period, Yakupov would score his
first goal in weeks on the power play, as Charlie
Sarault set him up for a one timer that beat Andrew
D'Agostini for the Sarnia 1-0 lead.
Sarnia
would continue on the power play as Brett Thompson
added his 18th goal of the year and second point of
the night. Yakupov would get his second point,
finding Taylor Carnevale in front for the third
power play goal.
But Sarnia
wasn't finished as Charlie Sarault would get the
fourth straight Sting goal, as well as picking up
his fourth point on the afternoon, as he had an
assist on each of the previous Sting goals.
Peterborough would break Brandon Maxwell's shutout
40 seconds later, and Stephen Pierog would add a
goal in the third period, but Maxwell would complete
36 saves in the victory.
This was
the second time in the month of December the Sting
have defeated the Petes,
Sarnia
will finish off the rest of 2011 on the road, taking
on Erie next Saturday and Brampton on Sunday.
