The
Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD's
were back in league action after
having a week off due to
tournament participation.
On
Saturday December 3rd, Sarnia
would host the Stratford
Warriors on home ice at the
Sarnia Arena. After coming off
of a successful tournament the
boys headed into the match with
great confidence. Their play was
very evident of the boy's
certitude.
The
Jr. Sting would open the scoring
early in the first period when
center Cayden Wise converted on
the loose puck to put Sarnia
ahead by one. Assisting on the
goal were Llyeton Williams and
Kristian Spitzig. The boys
maintained pressure throughout
the period but could only manage
one goal.
The
second period continued as the
first with Sarnia dominating
play. As the Sting were
shorthanded, the kids continued
pinning Stratford deep in their
own end and finally were
rewarded as Winger Mateo Troiani
wristed the puck behind a
surprised Warrior goalie.
Assisting on the goal was Adam
Ikhert.
Shortly
after, Sarnia would go up by
three as Centre Jacob Gould
would fire a shot into the top
corner of the Stratford net.
This was their second
shorthanded goal of the game.
Three minutes later, Cayden Wise
would bang home his second of
the game as he finished a
rebound into the lower right
portion of the goal. Assisting
on the goal were Kristian
Spitzig and Llyeton Williams.
Mateo Troiani would complete the
scoring for Sarnia as he notched
his second of the night,
backhanding the puck into the
net with four minutes remaining
in the period.
Neither team would score in the
third and strong defense and
goaltending prevailed as Sting
netminder Ian Stouth notched his
first shutout of the season.

Warriors 0.
