DECEMBER
14, 2011
The
Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD's hosted the
London Bandits Orange on Saturday December 10th
at the Sarnia Arena. The Sting were coming off
of their best effort of the season in a 5 - 0
win over Stratford. The kids were anxious and
ready to compete.
The first
period produced great action on both ends of the
ice, however the boys were tentative to open
things up. Defensively Sarnia stood strong as
the first period ended in a 0 - 0 draw.
In the
second period, London would open the scoring
first when their forward wristed a puck from the
top of the circle which somehow found the corner
of the Sarnia goal. Two minutes later the
Bandits would take a two goal lead on a
powerplay. Sarnia would continue to pressure but
could not find the back of the net.
At the closing minutes of the second, the
Bandits would be rewarded a penalty shot when
Sting a defenseman threw his stick on a London
breakaway. Sarnia goalie Ian Stauth made the
huge save on the penalty shot which kept Sarnia
in the game. The period would end with London up
by two.
The Bandits
would score two more goals in the third to take
a commanding lead. The Jr. Sting would finally
get on the board as they favoured an extra
attacker pulling their goalie with three minutes
left in the game. Sting winger Kurtis Allardyce
would solve the London goalie and break the
shutout. Assisting on the goal was Kristian
Spitzig and Cayden Wise. The final buzzer
sounded with Sarnia on the short end behind by
three goals.
Final score - Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atoms 1 -
London Bandits Orange 4.
