Third Period Powers
Point
Bantams over South Huron
The
Point Edward Bantams hosted South Huron in
Lambton-Middlesex league action and with a big third
period came out with a 5-2 victory.
The
Point started the game in the penalty box and South
Huron made it count when the Point defense couldn’t
the zone to make it 1-0. The Hawks woke up and the
game became fast paced with end-to-end action.
Midway through the period, Courtemanche brought out
the cannon and score with a slap-shot from the
blueline to tie it up at 1-1. Near the end of the
period, Fortey came up big on a South Huron rush to
keep it at 1-1 going into the second.
With
a late first period penalty, the Hawks started the
period shorthanded but South Huron could manage a
goal against a powerful Point penalty kill. Midway
through the period, the Hawks took the lead when
Smith set up Courtemanche at the blueline and
whistled his second past a screened South Huron
goalie. The Point pressed South Huron hard making it
difficult for them to clear their zone as the game
became more physical. With seconds left in the
period, South Huron tied it up off a face-off in the
Points zone to make it 2-2.
South
Huron looked to have new life going into the third
but Collins kept them off the board with some big
saves early. The Point continued to press and it
paid off when McGugan set up Smith for the shot and
McGugan slammed in the rebound to give the Hawks the
lead. Shortly thereafter, McGugan setup Kotstra from
behind the net who lifted the puck into the top
corner to give the Point a bit of a cushion. To seal
up the win, McMichael made a zone clearing pass
around the boards to an opened Smith who got a
breakaway and ended the game 5-2.
