The Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD's host the
second place North London Nationals at the
Sarnia Arena this past Saturday December 17th.
Sarnia was coming off of a loss and the boys
were looking to turn things around.
From the opening
face-off the Sting were all business dominating
play with aggressive forechecking. Many
offensive quality scoring chances were evident
in the first period but London held firm to keep
Sarnia off the score sheet.
Sarnia would open
the scoring at the four minute mark of the
second period when right winger Chandler Haagsma
made the perfect rush up ice and finished with
the high backhander, stick side, which eluded
the National goalie. Assisting on the goal were
Erin Murray and Kristian Spitzig. Three minutes
later Sting centerman Cayden Wise would bang
home a rebound to put Sarnia up by two.
Assisting on his goal were Kristian Spitzig and
Lleyton Williams. Thirty seconds later Sarnia
continued the flurry, with Spitzig earning his
third point of the afternoon firing a wrist shot
past the London goaltender. Assisting on the
Spitzig goal were Cayden Wise and Connor
Antosiak. The Sting continued to pressure and
were rewarded when winger Adam Ikert picked up
the loose puck and wristed a shot into the left
corner of the net (assists went to Alex Newall
and Noah Porter). London would net a goal, late
in the second to bring their team within three.
The Nationals would
add two more in the third but would fail to
equalize as Sarnia would close the door. Strong
performances were evident by all members
including Sarnia Goalie Ian Stouth. The Sting
look to keep pace in the standings as they
travel to London Wednesday night to face
Oakridge.
Final Score - Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom 4 -
North London Nationals 3.
