The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major
Atom MD held off the West London Hawks in the third
period to win by a score of 5 - 4 Thursday December
1st at the Germain Arena.
Mat Waun came out flying in
the first period and scored the games first two
goals. Ian Bailey assisted on Mat's first goal and
Aiden Clark assisted on Mat's second.
Early in the second period the
Jr. Sting went up 3 - 0 on a nice passing play; Evan
Trigatti to Ryan Eyre behind the net to Collin
Zimmer in the slot. Collin made no mistake and beat
the Hawks net minder. With 8 minutes left in the 2nd
frame Cole Goosens would score on a similar play,
this time from Spencer Baillie and Collin Zimmer.
West London would get on the score sheet late in the
second to make it a 4-1 game.
In the third period Beynon
Jonas would spring Ryan Eyre on a break away and
Eyre would stick it top shelf to give the Jr. Sting
a 5-1 lead before the West London Hawks came back
and scored three unanswered goals. The Hawks pulled
the goalie in the last minute but were not able to
get the tying goal.
Stevie Schaefer earned the
victory in net for the Major Atom MD while Evan
Trigatti earned the coach's player of the game for
his tenacious fore checking. Mat Waun was the
parents pick for player of the game.
The Jr. Sting are back in
action on Monday December 5 when they travel to
London to take on the Oakridge Aeros.
