Sting finishes year off with a loss against the Knights

London, ON - The Sarnia Sting continue to struggle as they dropped a 7 - 3 decision against the London Knights Friday night at the John Labatt Centre.

 

London opened the scoring at 2:32 into the first period on a goal by Andreas Athanasiou.  The Sting answered back on a power play goal by Reid Boucher at 6:35.  Before the first ended London would add a pair with Brett Welychka and Josh Anderson scoring at  11:54 and 13:38.  Sarnia narrowed the gap at the 15 minute mark on a goal by Brett Ritchie and period ended with London leading 3 - 2.

London widened their lead in the second period after Seth Griffith scored on the power play just :46 seconds into the period. Brett Welychka added his second for the Knights at 17:35 to give London the 5 - 2 lead heading into the third.

 

Sarnia fought back in the third as Domenic Alberga scored at the 1:29 to narrow the lead to 5 - 3.   But London held on and went on and scored two more the first at 3:45 and another at 16:01 with Seth Griffith scoring both to give him a hat trick for the night.

Michael Houser was the winning goalie with a total of 35 saves.  Brandon Maxwell took the loss with 33 saves. 

The Sting went 1 for 4 on the power play opportunity, London went 1 for 5.


Sting's Charles Sarault earned second star of the night after assisting on all three Sarnia goals.

 

This is the Sting's 4th loss in a row as they head into the new year in second place in the West Division in the Ontario Hockey League with a record of 19-13-1-4.

The Sting will host the Knights for the second part of the annual home/home series on New Years day at the RBC Centre with a 2:05 pm puck drop.
