Point Edward Bantams take a 2 - 1 win over Lucan Stars
sarniasports December 1, 2011

The Point Edward Bantam Blackhawks hosted the Lucan Stars in Lambton-Middlesex league action and came out with a hard fought 2-1 win.

The first five minutes of the game was fast paced with action going end-to-end. Neither team was able to get close to the net. With five minutes remaining in the period, Lucan got a break when they shot at the net and the puck hit the post and off the Points goalies skate to make it 1-0 for the Stars. The Hawks couldn’t really get a rhythm going with three penalties awarded to them but the Points penalty killing did well to keep the game at 1-0.

The Hawks started the period a man short but the Point’s penalty kill managed to keep the Stars in their zone and it paid off when Kootstra and Graham set up Courtemanche who let one rip from the blue-line to beat the Stars goalie and tie the game at 1-1. The Hawks started to put the pressure onto the Stars with Lucans net minder coming up big to keep the game at 1-1. In a repeat of the previous goal, Graham and Stevenson set up Courtemanche one more time at the blue-line and beat a screened Lucan goalie to get his second of the game and give the Point a 2-1 lead.

The third period saw some good action for the spectators and play was back-and-forth but neither team could get close as both defensive teams would let anyone close to the net to get a break. The Stars got a late period penalty that killed their chances to tie the game and the Hawks came out with the victory.

Collins and Fortey shared duties in net and received the win.
