andrew brethauer February 6th, 2012

Sarnia, ON - The Lambton Jr. Sting Minor Midget AAA team needed an extra game in their series with the Waterloo Wolves, defeating the Wolves 2-0 in game six and moving on to the next round of the playdowns.

After a scoreless first and second periods, Dennis Yan would open the scoring in the middle of the third to put the Jr. Sting up 1-0.   Carter Allen assisted on the goal.

The Wolves needed the victory so with time running out, they pulled their goalie. Unfortunately for them, Ryan Verbeek took control and scored into the empty net, securing the victory for the Sting with 17 seconds remaining.

Cornel Felder picked up the shutout for the Sting stopping all 18 shots he faced.

Lambton won game one 4-3 in overtime, while game two settled at a 6-6 tie. Lambton would take game three 4-3, but Waterloo would win game four 3-1 and even the series with a 4-1 victory in game five.

The Minor Midgets now await their schedule as they head into the semi finals later this week.
