Sault Ste. Marie, ON - Ryan Spooner had a four goal
game as the Sarnia Sting edge out the Sault Ste.
Marie Geyhounds 7-6 in a shootout for their second
road victory of the weekend.
The
Greyhounds lead after the first as Nick Cousins
would open the scoring, followed by Nail Yakupov
picking up his 24th goal of the season to tie the
game. Andrew Fritsch would put the Greyhounds back
in front with his 8th of the year.
In the
second, Carson Dubchak would make it a two goal lead
for the Greyhounds until Spooner scored his 20th of
the season on the power play to cut the lead back
down to one. Sault Ste. Marie would reply with a
pair of goals as Ryan Sprout would score along with
Dabid Broll on the power play as the Greyhounds lead
5-2.
Spooner
would then go on to complete a hat-trick in a row,
as the forward would score on the power play at the
end of the second period for his second of the game,
while he would score the third periods first two
goals 16 seconds to tie the game at 5-5.
David
Quesnele and Yakupov would trade goals, sending the
game into extra time and shootout.
Yakupov
would score first for the Sting, while all other
five shooters would miss on their attempt, giving
the Sting an extra point.
Brandon
Hope got the start and made 27 saves in the victory.
Sarnia will next head to Guelph next weekend.
