Sarnia, ON -
With a 6-2 victory over the Chatham Maroons, the
Sarnia Legionnaires have locked up first place in
the Western Conference, and will have home ice
advantage throughout the rest of the playoffs.
Sarnia
struck quickly in the first period, as Derek
D'Andrea scored on a wrap around goal to put the
Legionnaires a head 1-0. Shortly after while on the
power play, Nathan Mater would get a sharp angle
shot on net past Chatham goalie Hunter Johnson for a
2-0 Sarnia lead.
But the
Maroons, who are still fighting for a playoff spot
of their own, would come back in the first period.
Brennan Feasey would get a shot past Kyle Washer to
cut the lead in half, and Thomas Eady would tie the
game after getting a pass from Feasey in front, as
the game was tied 2-2 after the first period.
In the
second period, Sarnia would retake the lead late, as
Steve Farlow would score to put Sarnia back in front
in would end up being the game winning goal.
In the
third, Sarnia would continue to score, as Daniel
Nikandrov would slip the fourth goal past Johnson.
Sarnia would score again on the power play as Jason
Teschke picked up the fifth goal of the game, and
Farlow would finish off the game with his second of
the night on an empty net goal.
Kyle
Washer made 42 saves in the victory, while Sean
Parker made all 8 coming in for just under 15
minutes of play. Sarnia was out shot 52-43 in the
game.
The
victory now puts Sarnia eight points in front of
Leamington who has 58 points and has four games left
to play including the final game of the season
against Sarnia. Sarnia ha won the season series
against the Flyers winning four of five so far.
Chatham
remains out of the playoff picture as they remain
tied with 41 points with the Lambton Shores
Predators, with both having three games remaining.
Sarnia will take on either one of these teams in the
first round of the playoffs.
