Sarnia, ON -
The St. Clair Storm finished their round robin play
in the Midget B division with a 4-0 shutout victory
over the Tillsonburg Lightning, helping to earn them
a spot into the quarter finals of the Sarnia Girls
Silver Stick tournament.
It was a
physical game between the two teams who both fought
for position and had their chances early in the
first period. Both teams had power play
opportunities, but they were turned aside, and after
the first period the score remained 0-0.
In the
second, the Storm came out firing quickly, as Claire
Moran fired a wrist shot on net that Lightning
goalie Antonia Matos got a small piece of, but it
ended up in the back of the net for the St. Clair
1-0 lead.
Thirty
seconds later the Storm would get a second one past
Matos, as Stephanie McLachlin would pick up a
redirected puck in the slot and fire another wrist
shot on net to give the Storm a quick 2-0 lead in
the second period.
St.
Clair would not let up in the period, as Alisha
Renaud would score a pair of goals for the Storm,
first scoring on a shot form the point beating a
screened Matos, while he second goal came from just
inside in the blue line where a wrist shot would get
past Matos for the fourth time, giving St. Clair a
4-0 lead after two period.
St. Clair
goalie Sarah Maheu would keep the door closed for
the third period, stopping all shots that came her
way and earning the shutout, as the Storm finish off
the round robin with a 4-0 victory.
"It was a
rough game. We were lucky to score in the second, as
we played terrible in the first," said coach John
Dobson. "Luckily we were able to put the girls back
on line and get going."
Dobson
believes the Storm can win the tournament if they
play their game, but would meet a tough Petrolia
team in the quarter finals.
St. Clair
won their first round robin game 6-0 over Saugeen,
but dropped their second game to Walkerton 3-1.
