andrew brethauer January 20th, 2012

Sarnia, ON -  It was a tough opener for the Lambton Jr. Sting Atom AAA team in their first round robin game of the 2012 Silver Stick tournament, as the Jr. Sting were downed 6-1 at Clearwater Arena.

In the first period the Jr. Sting had their chances to open the scoring but couldn't find the back of the net. Nearing the end of the period, Whitby would strike with a pair of goals just over a minute a part. Cole Perfetti would recieve a cross crease pass and pull the Lambton goalie out of his net before finding Jacob Sirizzotti in the middle with a wide open net to make it a 1-0 game.

Whitby's second goal was the result of a Lambton turn over in their own end, as Jacob Winterton put a deke around the defence and wristed a shot to the top of the net for a 2-0 Whitby lead after one period of play.

Lambton would be out player for the first half of the second period, but goalie Liam McCarthy kept the score 2-0. Lambton would then capitalize, as Hunter Monkhouse would find Josh McLean in the slot where his wrist shot would beat the Wildcat goalie to cut the lead in half.

Whitby would answer right back quickly, as Cole Perfetti would pick up a rebound and put it over a sprawling goalie for a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.

In the third, Whitby would continue to put goals past, as Jacob Winterton would pick up a hat-trick with a pair of goals, crashing the net on both, while Ben Andrews would add the final Wildcat goal in the 6-1 victory.

Lambton will play their second game on Friday at 12:50 in Point Edward against the Mississauga Rebels and will play Markham in their third game on the round robin on Saturday at 12:40pm at RBC-1.
