Sarnia, ON - It was a tough opener for the
Lambton Jr. Sting Atom AAA te am
in their first round robin game of the 2012 Silver
Stick tournament, as the Jr. Sting were downed 6-1
at Clearwater Arena.
In the
first period the Jr. Sting had their chances to open
the scoring but couldn't find the back of the net.
Nearing the end of the period, Whitby would strike
with a pair of goals just over a minute a part. Cole
Perfetti would recieve a cross crease pass and pull
the Lambton goalie out of his net before finding
Jacob Sirizzotti in the middle with a wide open net
to make it a 1-0 game.
Whitby's
second goal was the result of a Lambton turn over in
their own end, as Jacob Winterton put a deke around
the defence and wristed a shot to the top of the net
for a 2-0 Whitby lead after one period of play.
Lambton
would be out player for the first half of the second
period, but goalie Liam McCarthy kept the score 2-0.
Lambton would then capitalize, as Hunter Monkhouse
would find Josh McLean in the slot where his wrist
shot would beat the Wildcat goalie to cut the lead
in half.
Whitby
would answer right back quickly, as Cole Perfetti
would pick up a rebound and put it over a sprawling
goalie for a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
In the
third, Whitby would continue to put goals past, as
Jacob Winterton would pick up a hat-trick with a
pair of goals, crashing the net on both, while Ben
Andrews would add the final Wildcat goal in the 6-1
victory.
Lambton
will play their second game on Friday at 12:50 in
Point Edward against the Mississauga Rebels and will
play Markham in their third game on the round robin
on Saturday at 12:40pm at RBC-1.
