Sarnia, ON - The Fresno Jr. Monsters first
Canadian visit did not fair to well,
as they faced host city team Sarnia Jr. Sting in the
opening game of the Midget A division of the Boys
Silver Stick, dropping a 6-0 decision to Sarnia.
Sarnia
came out quick in physical against the Monsters in
the shutout victory, and with a tight defence Fresno
was not able to sustain much attack on to Sting
goalie Kurtis Adams who picks up the victory
stopping all shots put his way.
Mitch
Derush-Pageau opened the scoring in the first off a
scramble in front, as the Jr. Sting put a lot of
traffic in front of Monster goalie Lindsey Sciacca,
with Derush-Pageau eventually banging him the puck
for the loan goal in the opening period.
In the
second the Jr. Sting would hit penalty troubles but
it wouldn't cost them a goal, as Jamie Vandenberg
would break up a pass and bring it down ice on a
2-on-1. wait out the defencemen and find Ben
Morrison in front for a cross pass goal, putting the
Jr. Sting ahead 2-0.
The
pressure would continue to mount on the Monsters
netminder, as Sarnia through puck after puck on net
that Sciacca turned away until Vandenberg would pick
up a rebound and move in untouched, putting a shot
high on Sciacca for a 3-0 lead.
Joe
Desena would add a quick goal on a breakaway to
follow, ending the second period with a 4-0 Sarnia
lead.
In the
third, Sarnia would continue to apply the pressure
in the Monster's end of the ice, getting on top of
Sciacca in the crease. Morrison would pick up
another assist finding Mike Brown across the ice for
an open net shot as the goal committed to the side.
Brown
would pick up his second goal similar to his first,
benefiting from a cross pass for a tap in open net,
as the Jr. Sting head off to their second round
robin game with no goals allowed and a 6-0 victory.
Sarnia
will take on the Duffield Devils Saturday morning at
8:30 am, and will finish off their round robin with
a 6:30pm game against the Littleton Hawks.
