andrew brethauer January 21st, 2012

Point Edward, ON - In the final game of  Silver Stick round robin play for both the Mooretown Storm and the Sarnia Jr. Sting in the Atom A division, a spot in the next round was not on the line as both teams were still looking for their first win of the tournament. The Sarnia Jr. Sting would pick up the 2-0 victory in a close contest.

The first period saw both teams moving the puck well, but a goalie duel between Lennex Jagoo or the Jr. Sting and Kaymond Turner of Mooretown broke out, as each goalie came up with crucial saves in the period to keep the game scoreless.

Sarnia would have the early advantage in the second period by Turner would again be there to make the stops. The Jr. Sting would get chances on the power play but that would yield few chances as the the Storm kept the puck away from their end and killed off the penalties, sending the game into the third still scoreless.

In the third the scoreless game would be broken, as a puck thrown on net would rebound out to Jason Caley who put his shot high over the downed goaltender and give the Jr. Sting a 1-0 lead.

Mooretown would have 5-on-3 and 4-on-3 power plays but they could not crack Jagoo in goal, as the Sting goalie held onto his shutout.

Andrew Czyczurko had two chances to put it away for Sarnia, but on two breakaway attempts he was stopped by Turner keeping it a one score game.

With a minute remaining the Storm would pull their goalie and have a couple of in close chances to tie the game. Hayden Griffin would work the puck out of the zone along the boards and break down the ice, scoring on the empty net and sealing the victory for Sarnia.

Sarnia finishes the tournament with a 1-2 record having lost to Port Huron 3-2 and San Jose 5-0 on Friday.

Mooretown finished the tournament 0-3 losing also to San Jose 4-1, and Port Huron 3-2.
