The Collingwood Blackhawks are the 2012 Sarnia Boys
Silver Stick Atom A Champions after a 5-2 victory
over the Arapahoe Warriors Sunday afternoon at
the Clearwater Arena.
The
Blackhawks had three of their give goals come way of
special teams, including a penalty shot on route to
their victory.
Tyler Karl
opened the scoring 1:30 into the first period,
receiving a pass from behind the net and putting it
by Warriors goalie Addison Zeich for the 1-0 lead
after the first period of play.
In the
second, the Blackhawks would have a breakaway chance
but a tripping calling would result in a penalty
shot. It was given to Emmett Sproule who deked Zeich
and put the puck in the back of the net for the 2-0
lead.
The
Warriors would cut into the lead late in the period
as Chase Jones scored on the power play to make it a
2-1 game, but 17 seconds later the Blackhawks would
regain their two goal lead as Tyler Fish would get
an even strength goal. The Blackhawks were not done
in the period as Dallas McQueen would score on the
power play to put Collingwood up 4-1 heading into
the third.
In the
opening minute of the period, Jack Cowling would
make it a 5-1 Collingwood lead, scoring on the power
play. Austin Schwartz would add another goal for the
Warriors but it would be to late to mount a
comeback, as the Blackhawks would take the
Championship 5-2.
Collingwood went 3-0 in round robin play with 6-1
victories over Dorchester and Capital City and a 4-2
victory over South Bend. They would defeat the
Brampton Battalion 5-3 in their semi-final match up.
The Blackhawks allowed only 9 goals in five games
and scored 26.
Arapahoe
went 3-0 as well in round robin play, defeating West
Mall 8-2, Welland 8-3, and Howard 6-1. They would
defeat San Jose 3-2 in their semi-final match before
finally losing to Collingwood in the finals.
