andrew brethauer January 22nd, 2012

Sarnia, ON - The Dorchester Dragons won the 2012 Boys Silver Stick Midget A Championship Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 victory over the St. Thomas Jr. Stars.

St. Thomas got on the board first, as Dan Gordon would score for the Jr. Stars for the early 1-0 lead, 1:38 into the opening period. 40 seconds later the Dragons would respond, as Tanner MacDonald tied the game, which stayed tied throughout the rest of the period.

In the second the Dragons would get their first lead in the game as Cam Bond would score late in the period on the power play to put Dorchester in front 2-1

Dorchester would come out in the third and quickly score a second power play goal 54 seconds into the period as Mitch Rowse put the Dragons ahead by two goals.

The Jr. Stars would be quick to recover as Zak Jukna would cut the lead back to one, scoring 23 seconds after the Dragons goal.

With the Jr. Stars looking for the equalizer, a fluke would ultimately end up costing them the tournament, as Bond would pick up his second of the game, banking a shot off Stars goalie Ricky Corkum to put the Dragons back in front by two with less then two minutes to play.

The Jr. Stars would not be able to find the back of the net despite a pulled goalie, and the Dragons would skate off to a 4-2 victory and Midget A Championship.

Alex Hutcheson got the victory in net for the Dragons.

Dorchester went 2-0-1 in the round robin games with a 4-3 victory over the Barrie Colts, a 3-3 tie against the East Gwillimbury Eagles and a 3-1 victory over the Collingwood Blackhawks. They would defeat London 1-0 in a shootout in the semi-finals to get to the final game.

St. Thomas went 2-1-0 in their round robin games, dropping their first game 2-1 to the Collingwood Blackhawks before rebounding with a 5-0 victory against the Fresno Jr. Monsters and a 5-1 victory over the Hollydell Hurricanes. St. Thomas would shut out the Duffield Devils in the semi-finals 2-0.
