The Toronto Eagles scored a short handed empty net
goal to seal the victory in the Midget AA boys
Silver Stick Finals Sunday afternoon, defeating the
London Jr. Knights 4-1 to capture the championship.
Toronto
would get a quick start to the game as Dillon
Lawrence would score in the first minute of the
period to give the Eagles the quick 1-0 lead.

The Eagles
would add to their lead before the period got out,
as Carson Lockhard would put a shot on net that
would rebound out to Cruz Portelli at the side of
the net for a tap in power play goal, as the Eagles
lead 2-0 after the first period.
In the
second, the Jr. Knights would cut the lead in half,
scoring the periods only goal as Raymond Cruickshank
would pick up a power play goal to make it 2-1
heading into the final period.
In the
third, the Eagles would be quick to score again, as
Lawerence would pick up his second of the game to
restore the two goal lead.
With time
winding down, the Eagles would find themselves in
penalty trouble playing 6 on 3 with the Jr. Knights
goalie pulled. With the puck at the blue line,
Lawerence would force a turnover, breaking down the
ice and putting the puck into the open net for his
third of the game, sealing the victory for the
Eagles 4-1.
Gianluca
Baggetta got the victory in net for the Toronto
Eagles, while Jaco Fonti was in net for the Jr.
Knights in the loss.
Toronto
went a perfect 3-0 in round robin play, defeating
the Mid State Mustangs 3-0, the Plymouth Stingrays
4-1, and the Tri Valley Blue Devils 3-2. The Eagles
would take in Arvada in the semi-finals and win 4-3
to advance to the finals.
London was
also 3-0 in round robin play, defeating the Freeport
Arrows 301, the Florida Jr. Panthers 4-3, and the
Chicago Bruins 3-1. The Jr. Knights would play the
Port Huron Flags in the semi-finals and win 4-2.
