Sarnia, ON -
The Toronto Marlboros defeated the Markham Waxers
5-1 to capture the Atom AAA boys Silver Stick
Champonship Sunday afternoon.
Toronto
would be the first on the board as a scramble in
front would be banged in by Brandon Sellan, scoring
on the only
goal of the first for the 1-0 Marlboros lead.
In the
second, it would take the Waxers the majority of the
period to respond, as another scramble in front of
the net would come out to Jacob Rintjema to tie the
game at 1-1.
But the
tie would not last long, as 17 seconds later Kyle
Harris would let a slop shot from the point go on
net, and the puck would slip through Damon Beaver's
pads and trickle into the back of the net before the
Waxers could get it out, putting Toronto ahead 2-1.
The Marlboros would add another goal quickly, as a
low wrist shot by Daniel D'Amico would get through
the five hole of Beaver, putting Toronto up by two
after two periods of play.
In the
third, Toronto would add to their lead as Lucas Rowe
would put another low shot by Beaver for the 4-1
lead.
Jacob
Moreira would add a short handed break away goal to
seal the victory for the Marlboros who capture the
Atom AAA championship.
Christian
Sbaraglia picked up the victory for Toronto in net.
Toronto
went 3-0 in round robin play, defeating the South
Central Coyotes 4-1, Belle Tire 8-1, and the Whitby
Wildcats 2-1. They would take on the Vaughan Kings
in the semi-finals and defeat them in overtime 2-1.
Markham
also went perfect through the round robin, defeating
the Windsor Jr. Spitfires 6-1, the Little Caesars
North 3-2, and the Lambton Jr. Sting 4-2. They would
play the Mississauga Rebels in the semi-finals and
win 3-2.
