Point Edward Bantams defeat Rockets on Home Ice
sarniasports November 8, 2011

After a hard loss the previous week, the Point Edward Blackhawk Bantams played a different style of game when they played the Strathroy Rockets in Lambton-Middlesex league action and won 3-1 on home ice.

The Bantam Hawks looked totally different out of the start game in this game as they kept the puck in the Strathroy end early with the Rockets defense doing a great job keeping them away from their net. The Point had the man advantage twice during the period and they looked to work the puck very well around the zone. During the second man advantage, Courtemanche cleared the zone to Graham who stickhandle around the Rockets defense and put the puck into the top shelf to give the Point a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

The second saw the Point in penalty trouble early and were down two men for two minutes of play, but the Hawks penalty kill did their job and kept the one goal lead. Mid-way through the period, the Point extended their lead when Boccanfuso brought the puck into the Rockets zone and took a shot from the top of the circle to beat the Rockets goalie. As the period was coming to a close, the Rockets were able to close the gap when they won control of the puck from a face-off in their end and with the Hawks defense pinching, got a break to make it 2-1 going into the final period of play.

Point Edward began the third controlling the puck and it paid off early when McGugan got opened at mid-ice and put the puck over the shoulder of the Rockets net minder to give them a two goal lead with assists going to Taylor and Boccanfuso. Mid-way through the period the Hawks did play two men down for a second time during the game but the penalty kill and a hot Hawks goalie kept the game at 3-1.

Collins and Fortey shared the duties in the net to give the Point the win.

The Point Edward Bantam’s next game is Friday November 11th against Mt Brydges in Komoka and then a home game versus Lambton Shores on Saturday November 12th.
