The
Sarnia Jr. Sting Minor Atom MD's hosted
Oakridge London on Saturday November 5th, at the
Sarnia Arena. This was their second meeting of
the season
with Sarnia winning
the previous game.
Surprisingly, the
Sting started slowly allowing Oakridge to score
at the 27 second mark of the opening puck drop.
A shocked Sarnia MD team regrouped and pressured
Oakridge seeking the equalizer. Numerous chances
arose however the period ended with the Sting
trailing by one.
Oakridge would add
to their lead 7 mins. in the second when a
London winger found himself on a partial
breakaway and netted the wrist shot behind the
Sarnia goalie. Sarnia continued pressing and
were finally rewarded when winger Kurtis
Allardyce skated around the Aero defense and
fired a shot into the top right corner of the
London net.
The Aeros regained
the two goal lead scoring early in the third
period however the Sting never gave up. Half way
through the period, Sarnia left winger Lleyton
Williams stick-handled around three London
players and wristed a bullet behind a surprised
Aero goalie. The goal seemed to ignite Sarnia's
spirit as the team fought hard looking to tie
the game. Sarnia thought they equalized the
score late in the third period when winger Mateo
Troiani wristed a shot over the Aero goalie
which seemed to drop behind the goal-line. One
referee acknowledged the goal while another
called it off. Play resumed and although they
fought valiantly, time ran out!
Final score : Sarnia Sting Minor Atoms 2 -
Oakridge Aeros 3.
