Point Edwards Bantam Blackhawks
hosted the Mt Brydges(Blue) Cougars
team in Lambton-Middlesex league
action and took a hard 7-0 loss in a
heavy penalized game which saw the
Hawks take eight penalties .
The Hawks hit the
ice aggressive and they paid the
price when they received a 2 minute
boarding call that put them
short-handed one minute into the
game. The Cougars couldn’t
capitalize on the opportunity but
did score shortly after the penalty
was up when they caught the Point
pressuring deep into the Cougars end
which allowed them to get a 2-on-1
break to take an early 1-0 lead. The
defense made some key plays with
Collins stopping a breakaway around
the 4 minute mark to keep it 1-0
going into the second period.
Early in the
second the Cougars made it 2-0 on a
low screen shot from the blue-line.
From that point forward, the rest of
the period was played short-handed
for both teams as seven penalties
were recorded with four going
towards the Point. The Hawk’s
penalty killing played well as they
only gave up 1 shorthanded goal but
by the time the period had ended the
Cougars racked up a 5-0 lead.
After a quick
break between the second and third,
the Hawks managed to settle in but
still couldn’t stay out of the box
as they tallied another two
penalties for a total of eight for
the game. Midway through the period,
they began getting some good
opportunities but the Cougars had a
hot goalie. Mt Brydges were able to
poke in two more goals to end the
game 7-0.
The Point’s next
game is November 5th when
they are home to Strathroy at 7pm.
