Sarnia, ON -
The Sarnia Sting finally showed their firepower
Saturday night against the Sudbury Wolves, as the
Sting put seven passed Brendan O'Neill in a 7-2
victory in front of 3595 at the RBC Centre.
Nail
Yakupov had five points coming into Saturday nights
game, with a goal and four assists, and nearly
doubled his points total against the Wolves, scoring
twice for Sarnia while also chipping in on two
assists.
Sarnia got
off to the quick start just 28 seconds into the
first period with Ludvig Rensfeldt picking up his
first of two goals on the evening. Yakupov would
make it 2-0 seven minutes later, as the Sting made
2-0 after the first.
In the
second, Craig Hottot scored on the powerplay for his
third of the season to push the Sting lead to 3-0.
Sudbury
would finally crack Brandon Maxwell who made his
third start of the year, as Kristoff Kontos made it
3-1.
But things
seemingly could not go wrong for the Sting Saturday,
as Domenic Alberga would score shorthanded to
recapture the three goal lead. Taylor Carnevale had
the assists on the short handed goal, giving him
three points on the night, all assists.
In the
third, Yakupov would get his second of the night and
third of the season, as Sarnia sprung for two more
goals in the third period. Nick Latta got his first
of the season while Rensfeldt ended the Sting
scoring with his second of the game.
Charlie
Sarault also had a multi-point game along with
Yakupov and Carnevale, helping with three assists.
Maxwell in net got his second win of the season,
stopping 28 shots in the victory.
Sarnia
went 2 for 6 on the powerplay, while fighting off
each of the six powerplays the Wolves had.
Sarnia is
now 2-1-0-1 to start the season. The Sting play two
more home games next weekend, hosting the Oshawa
Generals on Friday, and the Kitchener Rangers on
Saturday.
