The Petrolia Squires opened their season at home
Friday night in Western Ontario Athletic Assoc
hockey action against the Tillsonburg Vipers.
Despite the many
new faces in the lineup including new head coach
Todd Bidner the Squires suffered their first loss
with a final score of 7 -2.
Tillsonburg took a
commanding 6 - 0 lead scoring 3 goals in the first
period and adding 3 more in the second.
Scoring in the first period for the Vipers were
Terry Lammens on a shorthanded goal, Adam Vandepoel
scored the second and Justin Salt added the third on
the powerplay. Second period goals were scored
by Phil Durham and Kevin Galerno hit the mark with a
pair, the first shorthanded and the second on the
powerplay.
Jason McPhail scored the first goal of the season
for the Squires mid-way into the third to spoil the
shutout bid for Vipers netminder Jeff Bassindale.
Galerno went on and added the final goal of the game
for the and his third goal for the Vipers.
With 4:23 left on the clock the Squires chipped away
to score once more with newcomer Kyle Quinn scoring
his first of the season.
The
Squires are back in action tonight as they take to
the road for their away game against the Thedford
Dirty Dogs.
