Major Atom MD open season with 2 wins 1 loss

The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Atom MD opened its season with a 7-2 win against the visiting Stratford Warriors on Saturday October 1 at the Clearwater Arena.

Spencer Bailey scored the Stings first goal of the regular season at the four minute mark of the first period from Collin Zimmer and Aiden Clark. One minute later Ryan Eyre scored on a partial breakaway from Evan Trigatti and Cole Goosens.

In the second period Tyler Talbot-Ellis scored five minutes into the frame from Ian Bailey.  Ryan Eyre got his second of the game on a goal mouth scramble with assists going to Cole Goosens and Evan Trigatti. Stratford would answer with two goals before Cole Goosens banked a shot into the Stratford net from an impossible angle to steal the momentum back from the visitors.

The third period opened with a nice goal from Collin Zimmer. Beynon Jonas was awarded an assist on the play. Tyler Talbot-Ellis finished the scoring for the Jr. Sting unassisted with four minutes left in the third period. This was Tyler’s second goal of the contest.

Ryan Eyre was named the coach's player of the game as well as the parent's player of the game.

October 4

The Sarnia Jr. Sting Major Atom MD fell to the London Nationals by a score of 3 -2 on Tuesday night in London.

After a scoreless first period London would get on the board at the 8 minute mark of the second. Spencer Baillie had an opportunity to tie the game as Sarnia was awarded a penalty shot when it was determined that a London defender covered the puck with his glove in the crease. Spencer made a nifty move but the London goalie stayed with himand made the save.

Five minutes into the third Collin Zimmer stick handled through a London defender and roofed a shot to tie it up. Spencer Baillie assisted on Collin’s goal. Two minutes later London would pull ahead on a goal mouth scramble. With four minutes left in the game Cole Goosens would even the contest as he banged in a loose puck. Greg Ross and Nathan Oliphant drew assists on the play. The tie would be short lived as London came back and scored the eventual game winner 10 seconds later.

Mat Waun stood out among the Sarnia players with his hard work and determination and was awarded the coach’s player of the game. Collin Zimmer got the nod from the parents as he was awarded the parents player of the game.

Cam Stevens and Stevie Schaefer played well during their turns in net and both made several point blank saves in the loss.

October 6

Jr. Sting over West London

The Jr. Sting Major Atom MD defeated the West London Hawks by a score of 4-1 at the Germain Arena on Thursday night.

Helping Sarnia to earn the victory were goalies Stevie Schaefer and Cameron Stevens as they once again split the game in net for the Jr. Sting. The strong play of the Sarnia defence helped keep the Hawks to a single goal. Defenceman Aiden Clark was awarded the coach's player of the game while the parent's player of the game was given to defenceman Beynon Jonas.

Goal scorers for the Jr. Sting were Spencer Baillie, Tyler Talbot-Ellis, Collin Zimmer and Mat Waun. Collin and Mat each scored their goals while short handed. Collin Zimmer also drew an assist on Spencer's goal and Tyler's helpers were Beynon Jonas and Ian Bailey.
