Toronto,
ON – The Ontario Hockey League today
announced that Erie Otters’ forward
Greg McKegg is the OHL Player of the
Week for the week ending October 9
after registering seven assists in
two games.
McKegg
helped the Otters pick up their
first win of the season on Friday
night and established a new team
record in the contest with six
assists as part of the 7-5 victory
over the Owen Sound Attack. It also
marked the first six-point game of
his career and he received second
star honours for his performance.
On Saturday night the Otters and
Attack wrapped up their
home-and-home series with McKegg
picking up one assist despite the
6-3 loss to the defending OHL
champions.
McKegg,
a 19-year-old from St. Thomas, ON,
is playing in his fourth OHL season
with the Otters. The Toronto Maple
Leafs prospect has 10 points in six
games since returning from his
second NHL Training Camp. Last
season the Otters’ captain finished
eighth in league scoring with 92
points in 66 games.
Niagara IceDogs’ teammates and
brothers Freddie Hamilton and Dougie
Hamilton were also considered for
the award this week. Freddie
recorded nine points in three games
scoring two goals and seven assists,
while Dougie had eight points in
three games scoring twice and adding
six assists. In goal, John
Chartrand of the Belleville Bulls
won two games including a shutout
victory and posted a
goals-against-average of 1.00 and
save percentage of .967.
