Point
Atoms Opening Weekend Ends With A Win.
The Point Edward Blackhawk
Atom hockey team played their second game of the season
in as many days versus the Lambton Shores Predators and
came away with a 2-0 victory in Lambton-Middlesex League
action.
The first period saw the
Hawks come out very aggressive. The Predators had the
first scoring opportunity when they caught the Point
pinching into the Predators offensive zone, which led to
a breakaway with defensive hustle and a nice save from
Reinders, the Point kept the the game at 0-0. Both teams
had some excellent scoring opportunities and the game
remained 0-0 after 1 period of play.
The second period saw the
Point continue to have some good scoring chances with no
success. Again Reinders came up with some big saves and
the defense kept the Predators to the boards to keep it
0-0. The defense continued to play hard as the offense
tried to find an opening. With a late period tripping
penality, the Point was able to keep the game at 0-0
after two periods.
The third saw both teams
continue their end-to-end action as the defense played a
big role for both teams. At the 10 minute mark, Nathan
Edlington was able to get the Point on the board with a
wrap around from behind the net to squeeze the puck
between the goalie and the post. The Point got
themselves into trouble with another penality but were
able to keep the Predators from tying the game. Noah
Best put the game out of reach for the Predators with a
goal late in the period to end it at 2-0 for the Point.
The Point Edward Blackhawks
have another busy weekend with their next game being at
6pm on Thursday in Ilderton and then playing at home at
5pm on Saturday versus Mt Brydges(Blue).
