Point Atoms Battle Cougars to a
2-2 Tie
The Point Edward Blackhawk
Atom hockey team hosted the Mt Brydges(Blue) Cougars in
Lambton-Middlesex league action and in a very tough
battle came away with a 2-2 tie.
The first minutes of the
first period told the story for the remainder of the
game that both teams were evenly matched and that the
defense and goaltenders were going to be key. As the
period progressed the Cougars were playing defensively
and were not letting the Hawks close to the net for any
rebounds. The Point had some good opportunities near the
end of the period but couldn’t bang one in and the
period ended 0-0.
Early in the second, the
Point lost their focus and the Cougars made them pay.
Two minutes in, Mt Brydges picked up a lose puck at
center to get a breakaway and they made it count to make
it 1-0. Not letting the Hawks recover, the Cougars made
it 2-0, 10 seconds later. The Point regained their
composure and battled the Cougars for the remainder of
the period to keep it at 2-0.
Not getting frustrated,
Point Edward continued to work their game plan against
an aggressive Mt Brydges team. Capitalizing on a power
play, Kennedy and Young pushed the puck out to an open
Mackenzie Caley who brought it down the ice and hit the
top shelf to make it 2-1. The goal seemed to catch the
Cougars off guard and the Hawks continued with their
pressure. The pressure paid off five minutes later as
Caley hit an opened Nathan Edlington who tied the game
at 2-2. As the game came to a close, Reinders was hot
and helped the team gain a point in league play as it
ended 2-2.
The Hawks play their next
game in Strathroy versus the Rockets on October 31st
at 1pm.
