Point Travels to Richmond
Hill & Captures Consolation Final
The Point Edward Atom
Blackhawks traveled to Richmond Hill to play in the 15th
Annual Oak Ridges Local league Tournament.
Game#1 vs Innisfil
Winterhawks
Innisfil was playing their
second game of the tourney where the Point was playing
their first of the round robin round. Both teams came
out hard as they both wanted the first goal. Each team
surprised each other as they looked equally matched from
the stands and action was end-to-end with both team’s
offensive and defensive groups doing their part. Two
minutes into the first Robert Boccanfuso made a
zone-clearing pass to Jett Terpstra who got the Point
going to take a 1-0 lead. The Winterhawk’s knew it was
going to be a long game and continued to pressure when
they could which lead to a tying goal mid-way through
the period to make it 1-1.
The second showed how
closely matched the teams really were as both teams
continued to work hard and they patiently waited for a
scoring break. Reinders made the difference in the
second period as he stole two breakaways from the
Innisfil team to keep the game tied. Late in the period
Edlington grabbed the puck out of a scramble near the
Points blue line and took it on a breakaway to take the
lead back for the Point and the period ended 2-1 in the
Blackhawks favour.
The third period took its
toll on the Blackhawks and the Innisfil team capitalized
on their mistakes. The Point continued to work hard but
Innisfil tied the game off a rebound to make it 2-2.
Minutes later they caught the Hawks on a line change and
went in to take their first lead of 3-2. It was 4-2 when
they caught the defense pinching in and ended the game
with an empty netter to end it at 5-2 and which ended
the Point’s hope of a second tournament Championship.

Game#2 vs Oak Ridges 1
The second game played later
in the day saw the Point Edward Blackhawks versus the
Oak Ridges Kings#1 team.
The first period saw the
Point get to a slow start as the action was kept mostly
in their end early in the period as shown by the Kings
scoring 1 minute into the game to get an early 1-0 lead
to set the pace of the game. Mid way through the period
saw the Kings continue to pressure the Hawks as they
couldn’t clear the puck from their zone and Oak Ridges
made it 2-0. The second goal seemed to spark the Hawks
as they began to fight back. The digging paid off as
Noah Best made a great pass to an open Kaeden Canie who
one timed the pass to get the Point on the score board
and go into the second period with a 2-1 deficit.
The second period saw two
teams who were evenly matched and both teams had some
great scoring opportunities. Reinders again came up with
some big saves to keep the Point close and the period
ended with neither team scoring as the score stayed 2-1
going into the third.
The third saw the Point lose
some steam and the Kings took full advantage. Three
minutes into the period the Kings scored to make it 3-1.
With the Point a bit on their heels, the Kings continued
to pressure the Hawks and with a man down managed to
score a shorthanded goal to extend their lead to 4-1.
The weary Hawks continued to fight and didn’t let up and
with seconds left in the period and the Hawks goalie
pulled, Edlington set up Canie to make it 4-2 before the
game ended.

Game#3 vs Oak Ridges#2
The Hawks entered the third
game with nothing to lose and everything to prove after
two hard fought battles that didn’t lead to a win. The
first few minutes saw the Kings pressuring the Hawks in
their own zone with the Point having trouble getting it
past their blue line. As the period hit the midway point
and with neither team getting the first goal, the
Blackhawks seemed to gain some momentum, The Kings
continued to have the advantage but the Point defense
and Reinders did an excellent job in keeping the score
0-0 after one.
The second period saw the
Hawks continue to settle into their game. The goalies
for both teams played big roles in keeping the game at
0-0. As the Hawks began putting the pressure on the
Kings defensive play, the Kings would not let the Hawks
forwards near their goalie to capitalize and take the
lead. Reinders and the defense again played excellent
and the second ended 0-0.
The third period saw the
Point Edward team shine when Mackenzie Caley got the
puck at the Kings blue line and drove in to the zone to
put one past the Kings goalie and give the Point the 1-0
lead. The tide turned at that Point and the Kings took a
tripping penalty and the Hawks capitalized when Young
and Haagsma set up Edlington to extend the lead to 2-0
midway through the third period. The game ended with an
open net goal from Edlington to make it 3-0 and end the
tournament for the Hawks on a winning note.
