GUELPH, Ont. – Members of the Sarnia Athletics
Southwest Track & Field Club endured freezing
temperatures on Saturday at the Canadian cross
country running championships in Guelph.
In the senior women'
seven kilometre race, West Virginia University
student, Marie Louise Asselin moved up in age
groups to finish 4th and qualify for
the World Cross Country Championships while
Sarnia native, Hilary Stellingwerff, finished 17th
out of 59 competitors.
In the junior men's
eight km race, Larry Abbot was the top local
finisher in 21st out of 201 finishers
leading the Sarnia Athletics Southwest team of
Corey McCurry (58th), Jordan Cote (64th),
Andrew Douglas (99th), David Arango
(100th), Matt Reddy (131st)
and Paul Cochrane (145th) to a 11th
place finish out of 24 teams.
In
the senior men's 10 kilometre race, Doug Currie
placed 30th out of 85 runners and in
the junior women’s five kilometer race, Haley
Cadwallader placed 110th out of 162
athletes.
