With an early morning race Canadian time 6:30 am but early evening in Japan  (7:30 pm) Hilary Stellingwerff was knocked out of the 1500 Metres final with a 6th place finish in Heat 1 of the Semi finals. The race ran slow with the pace picking up in the final lap.  Hilary finished with a time of 4:15.99.
 
The winning time in the first heat was 4:14.86.  In the 2nd qualifier race the heat ran much faster and the winning time was 4:03.84. The top 5 finishers plus the 2 fastest time went on to qualify for the final.  Hilary placed 18th overall.
