Two of the team's top draft picks made
an immediate impression in the annual
Black and White Inter-squad game for the
Sarnia Sting, Saturday afternoon at the
Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
First round
pick Brett Ritchie and third-rounder,
Brandon Francisco scored two goals
apiece in leading the Black team to a
7-4 victory. Another rookie, walk-on
Tyler Peters of Sarnia, had a goal and
two assists while veteran Marcus Pepe
chipped in with two goals and one
assist.
Veteran Matt Martin led the White team
with a pair of goals while Jake Milligan
and Joe Rogalski had one apiece.
Shayne
Campbell was impressive in goal for the
Black team as he did not allow a goal
before giving way to Jesse Raymond
midway through the game. Adam Courchaine
and Jamie Phillips split the goaltending
duties for the White team.
Just one
player, second-year forward Brett Appio
did not compete in the game due to a
slight concussion sustained in workouts
on Thursday. He is expected to be out a
week.
Following
the game head coach and general manager,
Dave MacQueen, announced that the team
has re-assigned eight players to their
respective junior/midget clubs.
One of those
re-assigned was defenceman Mitch Dunning
of Windsor, who was a fourth-round pick
of the team in 2008. Dunning played a
few games for the Sting last season.
Other players re-assigned included Jamie
Phillips, Ryan Zupanic, Jesse Drydak,
Braden Kavaratzis, Jake Milligan, Andrew
Sokol and Tanner Tomlinson.
That leaves
30 players remaining in camp.
The Sting
will open their five-game Ontario Hockey
League exhibition season on Thursday in
Windsor. Sarnia plays at London on
Friday before the two teams hook up
again Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the SSEC.
Children 12 and under will receive free
admission to that game when accompanied
by an adult.
