The Sarnia Sting will be
out to snap a two-game
losing streak tonight
when they host the
Kitchener Rangers at the
RBC Centre.
Game time for the
Ontario Hockey League
contest is 7:35 p.m.
This will be Kitchener’s
first visit to Sarnia
this season although the
two teams have already
played twice in
Kitchener. Sarnia won
the first game 4-3 in a
shootout while Kitchener
took the second game
4-1.
After missing the
playoffs last season,
the Rangers are off to a
great start this year.
They sit in third place
in the Western
Conference with an
impressive 22-8-1-2
record. They are coming
off a win at Windsor
Sunday where they
snapped the Spitfires
23-game winning streak.
“Kitchener has good
depth up front. They are
a fast, skilled team,”`
says Sting defenceman
Brent Sullivan. “They
also have a good power
play so our
penalty-killing needs to
be working.”
Sullivan added, “We need
to come out and dictate
the pace of the game.
Kitchener is a team who
likes to come out strong
early in the game and
get the lead.”
Sarnia is coming off a
pair of close games
where they lost 4-2
(open net goal) at Sault
Ste. Marie and 3-2 at
home to Erie the night
before.
“We need to play a full
60 minutes of hockey,”
says Sullivan. “We also
need to generate offence
off our forecheck and
get more shots on net.”
Scoring goals has been a
problem of late for the
Sting. They are
averaging just two goals
a game over their last
four games. For the
season, Sarnia is tied
for 19th in
the league with just 93
goals, an average of 2.6
per game.
Compare that to
Kitchener who is
averaging just over four
goals a game.
The Sting could have a
full lineup for tonight
as Miroslav Preisinger
is listed as probable.
He missed the past two
games with a bruised
hand.
Tonight marks the first
of three games in three
nights for the Sting
prior to the Christmas
break. They play in
Mississauga Friday night
and host the Brampton
Battalion on Saturday
night. Their next game
after that is Dec. 29th
at home against
Plymouth.
Overager Chris MacKinnon
leads the Rangers in
scoring with 20 goals
and 29 assists for 49
points. Jeremy is second
with 44 points on 21
goals and 23 assists,
Jeff Skinner, who is
projected to be a first
round pick in the 2010
NHL draft, has 25 goals
and 18 assists for 43
points while Matt
Tipoff, acquired in a
trade with Belleville
last month, has 15 goals
and 27 assists for 42
points.
Kale Kerbashian is the
top scorer for the Sting
with 10 goals and 15
assists for 25 points.
Defenceman Joe Rogalski
has moved into second
place with three goals
and 16 assists, Ben
O’Quinn is third with
eight goals and 10
assists and Jordan Hill
fourth with three goals
and 13 assists.
Kitchener’s two goalies
are enjoying fine
seasons. Mavric Parks
has 2.22 goals against
average with a .939 save
percentage. He sports a
12-1-1-0 record. Brandon
Maxwell has a 10-7-0-2
record with a 3.47 g.a.a.
and a .906 save
percentage. Both goalies
have one shutout each.
Adam Courchaine has
started the past six
games in goal for the
Sting. He has a 3.10
g.a.a., a .910 save
percentage and an
8-11-0-1 record. Shayne
Campbell sports a
4-5-1-0 mark with a 4,61
g.a.a. and a .872 save
percentage.

- Tonight’s
game officially marks
the beginning of the
second half of the
season for the Sting.
They sport a 13-19-1-1
record. They are tied
for 10th
place in the Western
Conference, but are just
four points out of a
playoff spot with two
games in hand.
Sarnia’s record is
13-17-1-1.
