Sting Notes:
Playoff Hockey
at it's best!
It was playoff
hockey at it's
best before a
sell out crowd
hockey fans were
given their
monies worth!
In an awesome
game that had a
start date of
April 5
but ended on
April 6 it took
3 overtime
periods to
decide a winner
in game 2 of the
second round of
playoffs.
Kitchener scored
the first goal
early in the
game at 3:49 by
Mikkel
Boedker.
The first period
also saw a
couple of game
misconducts
called on either
side.
First Justin
Azevedo was
given a checking
from behind
penalty after
slamming into
Steven Stamkos
and the second
to Ryan Wilson
that at first
was given as a
2:00 minute
minor then later
changed to a 5
minute major and
a came
misconduct.

In the second
period Kitchener
added their
second goal
just :51 seconds
into the period
on the powerplay
that carried
over from the
first period on
Wilson. As
the action
continued both
sides went back
and forth with
many chances.
Kitchener was
stopped by some
outstanding
goaltending in
the period by
Andrew Perugini
- in particular
two spectacular
saves, the
second that
brought the fans
to their feet in
applause!

Sting trailing 2
- 0 heading into
the 3rd period
they didn't let
up and came back
with two goals
each scored by
Steven Stamkos.
The first goal
was scored
midway into the
period on the
powerplay that
started deep in
the Sting end
with
Vladimir
Nikiforov
digging and
working hard as
he cleared it
out of his own
end up over the
centre line and
over to set
Stamkos up who
shot it in for
the goal.
The second goal
was scored 3:06
minutes later by
Stamkos with
Steve Ferry and
Justin
DiBenedetto
assisting. Both
sides remained
even at the end
of regulation
time sending the
game into OT.

The game went
into the
morning, with
both the teams
and the fans
exhausted,
wondering if the
deadlock would
ever be broken.
Mike Durco
answered that
question at
11:30 in the 3rd
overtime period
to give
Kitchener
Rangers a 2-0
lead in the
series. The two
teams will take
a well deserve
break and will
be back in
action in
Kitchener on
Tuesday April 8
for game 3, then
return to Sarnia
for game 4.
